The Importance of Perimeter Drain Scoping

At Truvue, we understand the critical role the perimeter drainage system plays in protecting your foundation and preventing costly water damage. That’s why we’re proud to offer perimeter drain scoping as an ancillary service, providing an invaluable layer of insight in addition to our comprehensive home inspections.

Perimeter drain scoping involves using a specialized camera to navigate the interior of your home’s perimeter drains. These drains, typically perforated pipes installed around the exterior of your foundation, are designed to collect groundwater and direct it away from your home, preventing hydrostatic pressure buildup against the foundation walls and keeping your basement or crawl space dry. Our high-resolution cameras provide a real-time, visual inspection of these often-inaccessible pipes, allowing us to identify potential issues that would otherwise remain hidden.

Why is Perimeter Drain Scoping Important?

The integrity of your perimeter drain system is directly linked to the long-term stability and dryness of your basement or crawl space.

During a perimeter drain scoping, our expert Truvue inspector will feed a camera through the accessible points of your perimeter drainage system. As the camera travels, we’ll be able to observe the interior condition of the pipes. We’re looking for common culprits such as tree root intrusion, which often appears as a tangled mass within the pipe. We’ll also identify any blockages caused by sediment, gravel, or other debris that has washed into the system. Our inspection can also reveal instances of pipe collapse or dislodgement, where sections of the drain are no longer properly aligned or have broken apart. We can detect cracks, severe deterioration, or even areas where the pipe has become completely clogged, rendering it ineffective. The visual evidence gathered during the scoping provides concrete proof of any existing issues, allowing for targeted and effective repairs.
